Christie® lighted up the ‘IBC Big Screen’ theater at RAI Amsterdam, and delivered unprecedented 2D light levels for 3D content. In the process, one of the cinema industry’s most pressing problems were adressed – the unsatisfactory showing of 3D content at low light levels. The event was the public premiere of Christie’s first prototype laser projector.

Here's the video from Christie: Video: Christie And Its New Laser Projector

Acer shows off the world's first 1080p beamer equipped with hybrid laser-LED light technology.

The K750 projector uses both LED and laser light sources, which is said to significantly improve colour brightness. This technology also increases the light-source lifetime to 20,000 hours and enables as much as 90% power savings.

Acer says the hybrid light-source technology enables flexible colour settings and a wider color gamut up to 85% NTSC and offers colour fidelity through a system of three independent colour lighting sources.

The Acer K750 will be available soon at a price of around €1.800.

More information can be found here.

News from Sumitomo's and Sony's joint-development of laser diodes:

"Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. and Sony have successfully developed the world’s first*1 semiconductor laser diode with an optical output power of over 100 mW in the true green region at a wavelength of 530 nm. This laser diode can be mounted on laser projectors and many other display devices. The new laser diode features twice the luminosity*2 compared with conventional gallium nitride (GaN) green laser diodes, and a color gamut broadened by 182% based on the NTSC standard (CIE 1976 color gamut)*3. As a result, these significantly improve the performance of laser projectors and other display devices to reproduce vibrant video and images."

At the NAB Technology Symposium on Cinema (TSC), Sony and Laser Light Engines (LLE) provided the first public demo of a laser illuminated cinema projector.

It's a complete laser driven illumination systems that provides independently controllable red, green and blue primaries required to illuminate digital projectors.
The LLE RGB engine is designed to replace Xenon or UHP lamps. With little or no physical projector modification, these engines can be applied to nearly all types of D-Cinema and non-cinema projectors, both DLP and LCOS.
The connection is implemented via optical fiber.

One cool thing about this new laser-engine, is its 3D silver screen compatibility.

For more information, check out the Press Release.
